Join Our Essential Team as an Electrician The Electrician - Water Plant position is part of the Plant Industrial Trades Series, devoted to journey-level skilled trades work in the construction, alteration and repair of utility plant facilities and equipment. Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and control equipment supporting the operations of a large-scale water treatment and pumping facility. This role ensures the continuous and safe operation of medium-voltage power distribution, motor control centers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), SCADA systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and instrumentation critical to water treatment, distribution, and pumping processes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs journey-level electrical work, including installation, maintenance, and repair of process instrumentation, electrical controls, power distribution, process equipment, power generation, and automation systems for water treatment plants and remote facilities
  • Provides direction and review the work of other electricians
  • Troubleshoots electrical distribution infrastructure, equipment, and systems to identify and resolve issues, including evaluating safety and reliability, determining repair needs, and coordinating resources
  • Performs inspections, preventative maintenance, and installs, maintains, and repairs security, fire alarm, and access control systems
  • Manages technical documentation, maintains records, determines material needs, and manages inventory. Evaluates project impact, coordinates with stakeholders, and provides support to other trades
  • Responds to emergency repairs as needed due to inclement weather or other emergency-related events

Education and Experience

High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and 1 to 3 years' experience as a journey level electrician or related work

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted

Licensing and Certifications

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

  • Interpreting and applying federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations

  • Performing journey-level repairs, maintenance and installation of electrical components, equipment and systems
  • Conducting inspections, equipment testing and providing preventative maintenance
  • Organizing tasks, meeting deadlines and prioritizing competing demands
  • Directing others in coordinating work and to meet service standards
  • Providing attention to detail, proofreading, and error correction in assignments
  • Filing and record-keeping principles for organizing, maintaining, and updating records, files, data and documentation
  • Comprehending reference books and manuals
  • Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

ADA and Other Requirements: Work Environment is medium; exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment, an outdoor environment, or in a vehicle. Employees may occasionally work in a street environment near moving traffic, construction sites, confined spaces, warehouse environments, or shop environments. Work exposures may include hazardous conditions but does not require frequent environmental exposures. Employees may occasionally be exposed to hostile individuals, extreme temperatures, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, or loud noises (85+ decibels).
