Overview

Electrician – Maintenance & Facilities Department, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. The Maintenance & Facilities Department is looking for qualified candidates to fill an opening as an Electrician.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard electrical tasks on primary and secondary voltage systems, transformers, VFDs, switchgear, lighting, DC and AC systems, solar panels, and related equipment and systems.
  • Assist with other facilities department tasks as needed (e.g., hanging Christmas lights, train tracks, unclogging a drain in an emergency).
  • Maintain a current knowledge of industry standards and developments.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate with related experience; strong competency in electrical systems maintenance.
  • Extensive knowledge of primary and secondary power systems, including main switchgears, electrical panels, lighting systems, motors, and general equipment maintenance.
  • Fundamental working understanding of high voltage systems, grounding, fuses, transformer maintenance.
  • Must lift and move 50 pounds without mechanical assistance; valid driver’s license and insurable through the Zoo’s carrier.

Working Conditions

Employment is contingent upon passing a post-offer, pre-employment drug and nicotine screen and background check. Regularly required to stand; walk; climb or balance; grasp; and negotiate stairs and ladders. Employee will be exposed to hazardous conditions, equipment, and outside weather conditions. Completion of related trainings for the role (e.g., Arc Flash, Fork Lift, Aerial Lift). This position will involve the use of forklifts and aerial lifts. Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds without mechanical assistance and have a valid driver’s license and be insurable through the Zoo’s carrier.

Position Details & Benefits

Starting pay rate is between $22.27 - $30.54/hour, depending upon skills & experience. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position and is subject to the successful completion of a probationary period and the deduction of union dues. Position requires working at least one weekend day.
