Overview

Summary: A Human Resources (HR) Manager's job is to oversee all aspects of HR within an organization, including recruiting, hiring, training, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. They also handle employee relations and play a crucial role in strategic planning to align the workforce with the company's goals. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization's human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Provides support and guidance to HR team, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, including recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Work closely in the negotiations, implementation and administration of UNION related activities and actions.
  • Build positive working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Work effectively with others in a team-based environment to accomplish company goals and to identify and resolve problems.
  • Ability to multi-task and continually prioritize tasks to be completed as required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency, attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and problem solving as needed.
  • Self-starter; able to work independently, as well as with others, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years experience in Human Resources, Payroll, and Employee Benefit Administration, 401(K) Retirement and Pension plan experience; experience in a union environment is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Analytical, problem solving, multi-tasking, written and verbal communication, attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of insurance, regulations, and third party recordkeeping/administration. Familiarity with COBRA, ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act), FMLA and related state and federal regulations.

Education And/Or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field; experience in Benefit Administration, Payroll, and union manufacturing environment; employment law and other government compliance regulations are preferred.
  • Must be able to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations or government law.

Language Skills

  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively one-on-one or in group situations with customers, industry groups and co-workers; utilizing methods to include, but not limited to verbal presentations or conversations plus telephone and email communications.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding while carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form plus the ability to create and interpret documents correctly. Possess the ability to deal with problems involving several variables in various situations.

Work Environment

  • The work environment is primarily an office setting. However, occasionally, time will be spent in a manufacturing environment. Mandatory safety protection (PPE) and caution will be required while in the plant.
