Overview

HR Manager role supporting the all-new Delta/Fairfield Inn by Marriott and Applebee's in Matteson, IL. Directs and ensures the efficient administration and management of the Human Resources function to include recruiting, training, wage/benefit administration, compliance with statutory requirements and the execution of employee relation activities, to provide each department with the personnel, guidance, and support necessary to achieve their customer service and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and instruct the management staff in effective recruiting and interviewing techniques to ensure the hiring and retention of qualified and efficient employees. Conduct interviews for all management positions.
  • Develop, implement and administer policies and programs related to the management of all hotel personnel to ensure a positive and productive employment environment. Monitor for fair and consistent application.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations pertaining to Human Resources; review current practices, implement new procedures, and communicate requirements in writing and verbally. Supervise EEOC program.
  • Control the administration of wages and benefits to ensure accurate and equitable application; analyze information from reports, manuals, and computer systems.
  • Review and appraise personnel changes and paperwork for merit and accuracy. Approve required HR forms such as Personnel Authorizations and Employment Requisitions.

Building Relationships

  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with direct reports to ensure ongoing development.
  • Maintain open channels of communication for all levels and monitor employee relations.
  • Aid in establishing positive relationships between employees, supervisors, department heads, and the General Manager.
  • Responsible for monthly rallies, annual awards/recognition, and other events as planned.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the General Manager.

Generating Talent

  • Identify and hire talent from inside and outside the hotel; support diversity and balance of skills; maintain succession planning.
  • Develop, implement and maintain departmental orientation and training certification programs; ensure appropriate new hire training.
  • Utilize on-the-job training tools; manage training initiatives; ensure completion of training by self and direct reports.
  • Manage progressive discipline procedures; ensure policies are administered fairly and documentation is complete.
  • Maintain regular communication to create awareness of business objectives and expectations; recognize performance and drive results.
  • Monitor performance appraisal programs to ensure timely reviews and measurable goals.
  • Solicit feedback, maintain an open-door policy, review satisfaction results to address concerns and improve retention.
  • Publicly recognize team contributions and maintain an ongoing employee recognition program.

Organizational Leader

  • Pursue learning and self-development; share knowledge and demonstrate depth of knowledge in a technical or specialized area.
  • Enliven the culture within the hotel; attend departmental stand-up meetings and communicate information in the GM's absence.
  • Support community service initiatives.

Supportive Function

  • Supervise, coordinate and motivate department staff.
  • Monitor safety programs and workers’ compensation benefits.
  • Maintain all hotel personnel records with appropriate confidentiality.
  • Ensure timely submission of corporate, divisional and governmental reports.
  • Prepare and distribute HR-related correspondence; answer inquiries; perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
  • Maintain employee bulletin boards.

Experience / Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school; high school diploma required; college degree preferred. Minimum 4 years hotel management experience at Department Head level or above. Full-service hotel experience.
  • Proven managerial skills; ability to make decisions, meet deadlines, negotiate contracts, analyze data, and coordinate large projects.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all employees; ability to read, listen and communicate in English; provide clear guidance and counseling.
  • Thorough knowledge of HR practices and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Basic math skills for salary/benefit administration and forecasting; computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.

Physical Demands

  • Stand, walk or sit for an eight-plus hour shift; occasional twisting, bending, reaching, and other movements.
  • Frequent talking, hearing, vision; ability to perform essential duties.
