Description
JOB FUNCTION:
Responsibility for transporting Head Start children to and from the center. Also, providing
Transportation to parents/guardians & children for activities related to Head Start.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Provide eligible children with transportation that is safe, efficient and dependable every day the program is in operation.
  2. Eliminate excessive down time of vehicles through a preventive maintenance program by completing daily logs.
  3. Pick up and discharge Head Start parents and children for activities related to Head Start.
  4. Ensure a Volunteer Rider is present on the bus when children are riding on the bus.
  5. Develop Bus route for all children riding your bus. (This will need to be up-dated each time a child is added to your bus.) Copies need to be forwarded to the Transportation Coordinator.
  6. Maintain up-to-date information on all children riding your bus including, but not limited to; emergency telephone numbers & contacts, addresses etc...
  7. Ensure children arrive at the center no later than 8:30 a.m. and return home no later than 4:00 p.m. (Weather permitting)
  8. Ensure no child is on the bus for more than 1 hour maximum each way. (Head Start requests no child is on the bus for more than 1/2 hour)
  9. Collaborate with other Head Start center staff to ensure a child & family action plan is developed and followed throughout the year.
  10. Follow rules and regulations of the highway while driving all Gateway vehicles.
  11. Ensures the safety of all children by participating in monitoring of center, implementation of child safety procedures, reporting accidents, reporting child abuse or neglect, and reporting any child health/safety concern to supervisor
  12. Post seating chart on the bus, at the center and provide copy to Transportation Coordinator.
  13. DO NOT transport any family members, friends or acquaintances at any time with the Head Start bus.
  14. Arrange for routine maintenance for your bus; seek approval from Transportation Coordinator before taking bus to the garage.
  15. Submit monthly reports by the fifth of each month to the Transportation Coordinator.
  16. Follow procedure for calling out.
  17. Other Duties required by Head Start.

QUALIFICATIONS
-Maintain a good driving record (accepted by our insurance carrier)
-Maintain current Commercial Driver's License for driving a school bus for the state in which you will be driving
-Clear Child Abuse Registry Information for the State of NJ
-High School Diploma
