Overview

Information Technology Specialist position focusing on technical, server and network support. Responsible for setting up and maintaining servers, workstations, and the network, monitoring for issues, and handling system patching. Requires strong communication and technical skills, adaptability, and problem solving.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee network activity, systems administration, backup, restoration, and capacity planning.
  • Provide data and network security.
  • Build, maintain, and support physical and virtual server environments (Ubuntu Linux and Proxmox).
  • Create new user accounts for new employees and remove accounts for departing employees; assist non-IT staff with technical issues and data transfers.
  • Develop and implement server maintenance standard operating procedures.
  • Support, troubleshoot, and image workstations.
  • Keep upper management informed with regular reports.

Education and Experience (required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems.
  • U.S. Citizen allowing for ITAR compliance.
  • Minimum four years of experience in LAN, WAN, and Telecom; capacity planning and performance monitoring techniques/tools.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and handle variable situations.
  • Operating System Experience: Windows Server, Windows Desktop, Ubuntu, Debian.
  • Experience with: imaging (Fog), Proxmox virtualization, Intune, storage solutions, Ubiquiti, Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Gitlab, and related tools; cybersecurity monitoring and network monitoring (e.g., Zabbix, Wazuh).

Education and Experience (Preferred)

  • 6 years of IT experience.
  • Experience in designing, planning, and installing network and server hardware.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (required)

  • Knowledge of network diagramming software (Microsoft Visio preferred).
  • Ability to create scripts (VBScript, PowerShell, Perl, PHP and/or Python).
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN and WAN to troubleshoot and address server issues.
  • Knowledge of firewalls, proxies and databases to keep the network and user information secure.
  • Ability to act as a technical resource and participate in system/network projects; knowledge of backups.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with customers, vendors and team members.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Knowledge of security on workstations, servers, switches, firewalls, and related devices; ability to maintain system and procedure documentation.
