Position Summary We are seeking a
Mechanical Engineer III
to join our Plant Engineering team at Hickory, NC facility. The successful candidate will provide
mechanical design support
on project work to improve existing fiber optic cable manufacturing equipment. This role involves mechanical system design, tooling development, equipment upgrades, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-performance manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities Design tooling and mechanical assemblies utilizing
Inventor
or
AutoCAD . Revise equipment drawings, obtain quotes, and order components. Develop experimental plans to validate designs and oversee system assembly. Provide hands-on support during equipment assembly, integration, and debugging. Troubleshoot mechanical systems, including
pneumatic controls, flow control, and cooling systems . Work closely with IT, process, and electrical engineers/technicians on cross-functional projects. Partner with operations to update documentation and support training. Manage mechanics/electricians during equipment assembly and installation.
Qualifications Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology,
or equivalent engineering experience.
Experience: 5+ years
of experience in
mechanical system design and integration . Proven ability to create/modify mechanical models and drawings using
Inventor (or similar 3D CAD), Vault, and AutoCAD . Strong understanding of
drafting standards and GD&T . Hands-on experience in
manufacturing equipment repair and maintenance . Vendor and machine shop collaboration for part procurement. Experience managing technical staff for
equipment assembly/installation .
Desired Skills: Familiarity with
plastic extrusion manufacturing . Knowledge of
electrical systems troubleshooting
(low/medium voltage, motion control, PLCs, temperature control). Experience with
data analysis
using
Excel, PI, and/or PowerBI .
