Responsibilities
Synthesize complex, non-routine, and routine target compounds containing isotopes such as 15N, 18O, D, and/or 13C, utilizing established SOPs where applicable
Design and develop new synthetic routes when required to achieve optimal results
Contribute to the optimization of chemical processes for targeted molecules, intermediates, and scalable, cost-effective production methods
Analyze and interpret data using various techniques, including Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Ultraviolet (UV) Spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry (MS), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy
Employ a variety of purification techniques, including chromatography, distillation, recrystallization, and sublimation
Maintain accurate and detailed records in the laboratory notebook
Mentor and assist junior team members, offering guidance on experimental techniques and troubleshooting
Ensure all work is conducted with strict adherence to safety protocols and good laboratory practices
Perform additional related duties as needed
Requirements
Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or a closely related field, or a Master's degree with significant relevant experience (e.g., 5+ years in organic chemistry and/or synthesis) Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field with extensive hands-on experience in organic synthesis and chemical processes may be considered 1-3 years of professional experience in organic chemistry and/or synthesis, or equivalent practical training as a Research Assistant or Postdoctoral Researcher Expertise in organic synthetic methods, chemical separation, and compound identification, with strong analytical skills Proficiency in laboratory techniques, including synthesis, purification, and characterization of organic compounds Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additionally, strong documentation and collaboration skills are essential Ability to perform hands-on bench chemistry, which may involve standing, bending, and stooping Familiarity with working in a controlled, hooded lab environment, as required by safety protocols Comfortable working with both hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals Physical ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and transport drums of chemicals, including up to 55-gallon drums, using appropriate equipment (e.g., drum dolly)
