Elementary Food Service Worker

Job Summary:
The Elementary Food Service Worker assists in the cooking and preparing attractive and high-quality food items that meet mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel; verifying quantities and specifications of orders; maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition; and assisting assigned food services personnel in food preparation.
Required Qualifications: • High School diploma or equivalent. • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance • Washington State Food Workers Card • Knowledge of basic USDA National School Lunch, School Breakfast Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program (Snack/Dinner) requirements and nutrient menu standards • Skills to prepare food in large quantities, plan menus, operate, care and maintain institutional kitchen equipment, maintain inventory control, and use standard office equipment including a computer • Knowledge of modern methods of food preparation, health codes, sanitation principles, and nutritional requirements • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness (for self and others), be empathetic, and be customer-service oriented. • Ability to support the District's vision, mission, and goals • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff • Demonstrated ability to interact with students in a positive manner • Demonstrated ability to act independently, responsibly, and efficiently
Essential Functions: • Read recipes and/or product directions • Estimate food requirements • Operate a variety of kitchen utensils to weigh, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, grind, stir, strain, season, and knead food for cooking, serving, and storing. • Assist in the preparation of hot and/or cold foods and properly store food utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and spoilage • Inspect workstations for compliance with service standards • Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment following all Sodexo, District, and Local Health Department regulatory rules and procedures • Taste test products when appropriate • Set up serving stations with entrées, salad bars, condiments, other food products, and utensils. • Provide general stocking duties in service area • Serve and replenish food from counters and steam tables and break down stations at the end of meal periods • Interacts with customers in the serving and cafeterias areas • Understand and comply with all USDA, OSPI, and local Health Department policies and procedures • Understand and comply with all Sodexo HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) food safety procedures and Centralia School District food safety policies and procedures • Comply with all District policies and procedures (including, but not limited to, safety and risk management) • Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety trainings, and hazard assessments • Receive and notate delivered product on delivery log • May function as a cashier during serving times for the purpose of maintaining overall food service efficiency and meeting accounting requirements • Report equipment malfunctions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in good working order • Attend various meetings and/or training sessions for the purpose of sharing information and improving job-related skills/knowledge • Work collaboratively with colleagues to complete daily tasks • Perform other duties as assigned
Salary:
$21.25-$26.13 per hour, depending on experience
Work schedule:
3.0 hours per day (10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.), M-F, 193 days per school year
Benefits:
Eleven paid holidays; twelve sick leave and three personal leave days; Fringe benefits as allowed under the Public School Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement.
