Position Information Classification Title Skilled Craftsperson FLSA Non-Exempt FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Preferred Qualifications 3-4 years’ experience operating moderate to heavy construction equipment in support of civil related construction and maintenance project Position Summary This is skilled work in the operation of moderate to heavy construction equipment. Will operate skid steer, backhoe, excavator, dozer, dump truck, and other equipment as needed in demolition, grading for asphalt and concrete placement, installation and repair of utilities, and other construction activities as needed. Proficient in the operation of these machines. Stages equipment and trucks on jobsite, establishes grade and sets base for new construction, and instructs other employees as needed. Also backfills new construction and as maintenance requires, establishes grade and trenches for pipe installation, excavates for underground structures, and assists other shops for needed repairs. Assists in asphalt placement and in the forming and placement of concrete. Performs traffic control as needed. Performs other duties as needed. This position will report during inclement weather to assist in duties such as the clearing of downed trees and snow and ice removal. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Experience operating moderate to heavy construction equipment in support of civil related construction and maintenance projects.
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans.
- Knowledge of advanced construction practices/techniques including, but not limited to, concrete forming/placement, grading, and job site safety.
- Class B CDL license
- Knowledge of CDL rules and regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans.
- Ability to perform manual labor as needed in support of construction activities.
- Ability to operate heavy construction equipment including, but not limited to, skid steers, backhoes, excavators, dozers, dump trucks and other equipment used in civil related construction projects.
- Stand, walk, stoop, bend, squat, and lift up to 75 lbs. throughout an 8-hour work day.
- Perform duties under adverse weather and adverse climate conditions.
