The Institutional Research Analyst 4 (IRA4) will sit in the Graduate Division Operations Unit and report to the IRA5. The person will collect, analyze, summarize and communicate data related to strategic decision-support for leadership in graduate education, campus-wide surveys, data visualizations/dashboards, and complex analyses of graduate student enrollment, retention, and success. Responsibilities Survey Design, Administration, and Analysis Coordinate and oversee graduate student surveys. Design and develop survey instruments in Qualtrics. Identify survey populations and data collection methods. Perform data collection and processing; interpret results and communicate them in reports and visualizations. Collaborate with UC survey professionals and campus colleagues on survey projects and institutional research.
Institutional Research, Data Analysis, and Reporting
Conduct institutional research projects with data collection, analysis, and ad hoc reporting. Extract and combine data from multiple sources using enterprise query tools. Develop and maintain SQL queries and reports for data extraction. Analyze data to identify patterns related to funding, enrollment, retention, and success. Develop and maintain data visualizations/dashboards. Produce ad hoc reports for campus leadership and external offices as needed.
Process Improvement, Automation, and Data Integrity
Contribute to design and documentation of AI-enabled automations to improve data quality and transparency. Document processes and validate data prior to dissemination.
Professional development and other responsibilities; may oversee work of student or clerical staff.
Required Qualifications
Growth mindset with a commitment to equity in survey work. Advanced knowledge of statistical or qualitative research methods; ability to select survey methods and sampling techniques. Ability to interpret survey results and produce clear reports and visualizations. Experience with Qualtrics and familiarity with UC campus systems (BFS, CalAnswers, UCPath, SIS) or ability to learn. Expertise in Javascript, SQL, Python, Stata, or R for data cleaning and analysis. Experience with data visualization techniques and transforming/disconnecting disparate data sets. Strong communication, listening, critical thinking, and multitasking skills; attention to numerical accuracy. Understanding of FERPA or ability to learn; bachelors degree in a related area or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience configuring and troubleshooting Qualtrics API integrations. Experience with relational databases or OBIEE; Cal Answers/OBIEE training may be provided. Experience with computational notebooks (e.g., Observable, Jupyter).
