This part-time position is seasonal through the months of May to October. The position may include nights and weekends, has flexible hours, and can be a great second job!
This post is continuous and may close at any time. Prompt application is encouraged. This part-time, at-will position is non-exempt and not eligible for City benefits.
Under direction of the Lagoon Supervisor, this position is responsible for supervision of patrons, lifeguarding, enforcing rules and ensuring the safety of patrons.
Lifeguards perform part-time paraprofessional duties including but not limited to: Observing swimming areas for emergencies Rescuing bathers Applying artificial respiration and/or first-aid to rescued or injured bathers Enforcing rules governing the conduct of persons in or near the water Monitoring water quality and keeping accurate records Providing support during facility rentals and special events Providing information to the public Implementing directions from supervisors provided orally and in writing Reporting orally and in writing to supervisors regarding safety and health concerns encountered while performing required duties Performing other related duties as assigned Valid American Red Cross certificates for lifeguard training, first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation are required. Candidates will be required to pass an interview and water skills assessment and swim proficiency test to be eligible for consideration for the position. The swim test date is to be determined and will be established by the hiring department. All candidates must possess:
Knowledge of: Principles and practices of effective training; first aid; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; and water safety.
The Ability to: Meet medical standards for the classification, and physical employment standards; pass a swimming test that includes lifting weights from the bottom of a pool; work irregular hours; satisfactorily perform required duties including but not limited to conducting swimming classes and administering first-aid; learn the principles and practices of effective supervision; read, speak, write and understand the English language; adhere to applicable terms and conditions of employment including but not limited to safety and health regulations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include but is not limited to: Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process, such as: reference check, background investigation, fingerprint criminal history check, post-offer drug test, post-offer psychological and post-offer medical examination, the cost of which will be borne by the City.
