About The Opportunity
Chelsea Piers is seeking to hire part-time Lifeguards to join our team.
Safety is our top priority and our Lifeguards are essential in holding up that standard in our Aquatics Center. As part of our Lifeguard team, you will be responsible for ensuring that our patrons are following all safety measures when using our Olympic Pool and Splash Zone. You will also be expected to monitor your area at all times to scan for any dangerous situations such as drowning, injuries, etc. We provide on-site training through the American Red Cross. However, it is a plus if you are already a certified Lifeguard and/or have previous experience. As a Lifeguard, you may also be assigned some operational duties to maintain pool standards and cleanliness. Qualified applicants may also have opportunities to instruct Swim Classes if desired with a potential of full-time work with benefits.

Primary Responsibilities
Maintain consistent surveillance of patrons in the facility without any distractions (e.g. cell phones). Act with immediate and appropriate protocol to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services. Execute proper surveillance and rescue techniques when needed. Present professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain a high standard of customer service. Assist with the Front Desk station as needed including but not limited to member check-in, answering phone calls and directing questions to appropriate staff. Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Enter the water to assist with pool maintenance or pool orientation adjustment. Maintain the pool decks cleanliness via various cleaning techniques. Assist patrons with lane assignments, reservations, and general lap swim etiquette
Qualifications
At least 16 years old. Must be able to lift a minimum of 55 lbs. Certified lifeguard through the American Red Cross or willingness to certify. Chelsea Piers can provide onsite certification training when needed. Must pass swim evaluation; qualifications include: Complete a Swim-Tread sequence without stopping to rest: Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or combination of both. (Swimming on the backside is not permitted; goggles are allowed). Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or combination of both. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards (the face may be in or out of the water; swim goggles not allowed). Surface dive (feet-first or head-first to depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-lb object. Return to the surface to swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out, at or near the surface. Exit water without using a ladder or steps.
Compensation:
$16.35 - $20/hour, depending on experience
Schedule:
Part-Time, flexible hours, varies based on business needs; Aquatics operating hours are Monday-Friday 5:00am-8:30pm; Saturday-Sunday 8:00am-4:00pm.
