Aquatic Lifeguard

Ensure that the aquatic operations are in compliance with established departmental policies and procedures. Aquatic Lifeguard is an hourly position, which may be designed full-time, part-time, or as-needed. Under the direction and supervision of the Aquatics Manager and Lead Lifeguards, the person in this position will observe swimmers, protect life, prevent accidents, enforce regulations, and do related work as required. Key Responsibilities: Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all instructors, volunteers, and participants. Help implement the plans set forth by the Aquatic Manager in accordance with The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures. Conduct routine water chemical checks and cleaning schedules as assigned by the Aquatic Manager or Lead Lifeguard. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must be at least 16 years of age. Must have the ability to swim with proficiency and endurance. Must successfully tread water with a brick for 5 minutes. Have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education including but not limited to: Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to people of all ages. Sensitivity to individual needs. Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently. Dependability. Ability to handle security and crisis situations, calmly. Ability to seek supervision and use it consistently. Must be able to lift and carry 40lbs. Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the center's swimming pools. Must have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the Center and The Salvation Army. Work is performed in an environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in temperature, pool chemicals as well as discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have prior experience working with children. Certifications: Possession of current certificates in American Red Cross First Aid or First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title22) or above; CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro), and Lifeguard Training.
