The City of Bozeman is now accepting applications for part-time Lifeguard & Swim Instructors who will perform critical lifeguarding duties, ensure patron safety at the indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, provide important aquatics program instruction, and assist in the maintenance, upkeep, and custodial duties of the pool facilities. Examples Of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

Opens and closes facilities Performs life-saving and guarding duties, including assisting patrons in life threatening situations Provides aquatics program instruction to patrons Provides customer service Maintains a clean and safe swimming facility Tests and monitors chemical balance in water Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification Minimum Required Qualifications

Must be of legal age to perform the duties of the position; and Aquatics/Lifeguarding experience is desired, but not required. Must obtain and maintain certifications in the following: Lifeguarding/First Aid; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED); Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification with one (1) year of employment. NOTE: On-the-job training will be provided to obtain the above certifications. Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Thorough knowledge swimming and lifeguarding techniques; Thorough knowledge of First-Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and use of an Automated External Defibrillator; Thorough knowledge of stabilization of victims with spinal cord injuries and other life threatening injuries; Thorough knowledge of proper aquatic teaching techniques in all ages and levels of ability; Thorough knowledge of pool water chemistry; Some knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, community and recreation programs; Ability to swim at an American Red Cross level four; Ability to properly perform rescues; Ability to maintain current certifications; Ability to instruct individuals on pool and water safety; Ability to use power and hand tools for cement work, painting, woodworking, plumbing, tiling, and other repairs; Ability to accurately operate a point-of-sale and pass registration computer program; Ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with the general public; Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly and with tact; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned supervisors, other employees, and the general public; Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language; Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions; Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations; Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks; Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions; Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines; Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology; Ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks; Consistently performs assignments in accordance with the City's Core Values of Integrity, Leadership, Service and Teamwork. Required Special Qualifications

As a condition of continued employment, must obtain Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification with one (1) year of employment; if course is available: Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory responses to appropriate post conditional offer process including a credit check. As a City of Bozeman employee, you will be part of a team that is committed to positively impacting the Bozeman community. 1 FTE (40 hours per week) A 1 FTE provides enrollment in an established retirement system with significant employer contribution (9.07%), ability to accrue 15 vacation days and 12 sick days per year, and excellent medical, dental and vision benefits! .75 FTE (30 hours per week) A .75 FTE provides enrollment in an established retirement system with significant employer contribution (9.07%), prorated vacation and sick time accruals, and medical, dental, and vision benefits with a 75% subsidy from the City. .5 FTE (20 hours per week) A .5 FTE provides enrollment in an established retirement system with significant employer contribution (9.07%), prorated vacation and sick time accruals, and medical, dental, and vision benefits with a 50% subsidy from the City. Less than .5 FTE (less than 20 hours per week) A .46 or less FTE has the option to participate in an established retirement system with significant employer contribution, prorated vacation and sick time accruals, and holiday pay.
