Environmental Services Technician
To provide a safe, sanitary, orderly, and attractive environment for patients, hospital employees and visitors. Responsible for repetitive tasks in routine cleaning and special assignments in designated areas and other assigned areas. Part time, benefited WEEKEND ONLY position working 48 hours per two week pay period, working variable hours. Shift differential of $4 more an hour working between the hours of Friday at 3:00pm to Monday at 7:00am. Job Functions
Cleans OR Suites and Sterile Processing Department, corridors, service areas, lounges, offices and assigned areas. Cleans rest rooms and replenishes essentials. Collects linen and disposes of trash to designated area. Performs tasks as assigned on cleaning schedules including washing walls, washing windows, cleaning drapes, blinds, refrigerators, etc. Cleans IV stands, wheelchairs, instruments carts, utensils, etc. with germicidal solutions and transport to proper area. Moves equipment and furniture for cleaning and rearrangement. Operates various types of cleaning equipment. Cleans work area and equipment at the end of the shift. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Qualifications/Requirements for This Position
PREPARATION AND TRAINING - Must be able to follow oral or written orders. WORK EXPERIENCE - No formal experience is required; on the job training is provided. Previous institutional housekeeping experience desirable. ATTENDANCE - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule. INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT - Work is performed independently. Employees must use his or her judgement to plan and carry out their work in situations where methods and procedures are established. CONTACTS WITH OTHERS - Frequent contact with patients, visitors and nursing personnel. SUPERVISING THE WORK OF OTHERS - Usually works independently. Does not oversee work of others. RESPONSIBILITY FOR WELFARE OF OTHERS - Carelessness could frequently results in moderate harm to patients, visitors, and co-workers caused from wet floors or improper cleaning. MENTAL/VISUAL EFFORT - Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the major requirements of this position can be met. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. WORKING CONDITIONS - Indoor work; good environment; hands are frequently in contact with water and cleaning solutions. May be requested to work on shifts other than the one for which hired. Is subject to falls from wet floors or reactions from dust and disinfectants. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Participates in and complies with JRMC Safety Management Program. Maintains knowledge of an observes Standard Precautions. Practices sanitary technique when cleaning. OSHA Job Classification: This position is defined as a Category 1: Employee does have exposure to Bloodborne pathogens. MATERIALS AND/OR EQUIPMENT - Operates a variety of cleaning equipment. Probable costs would be minimal and limited to a single cost center. HAZARDS - No apparent exposure to physical injury; is subjected to disease and infection when cleaning contaminated rooms. PROMOTION - No formal line of promotion. BACKGROUND CHECK - A background check is required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT - These are physical requirements of the position as it is typically performed.
