Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Primary teacher for a group of children.
  • Demonstrates a warm, calm, and unhurried manner.
  • Serves as a role model for children and university students.
  • Interacts effectively with students enrolled in Human Sciences courses.
  • Provides for the education, care, safety, and well-being of all children in the group.
  • Meets the children’s emotional, social, physical, and intellectual needs.
  • Plans and implements developmentally appropriate learning activities.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship with children, co-workers, university students, and parents.
  • Demonstrates increasing understanding of child growth and development in working with children, in talking with parents, and in recording activities.
  • Attends staff meetings, reports problems of child or room management to the manager promptly.
  • Attends in-service training, keeps current on developments in field of child development.
  • Follows personnel policies of the Child Development and Family Studies Center and the University.
  • Manages a safe, clean, and pleasant environment for young children.
  • Performs any related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or closely related field.

Licensures: Meets required standards as specified by the State Department of Health/Child Care Licensure Standards for staff including fingerprinting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching preschool children including group experience with children four years and younger.
  • Prior staff and/or student supervision experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work with young children.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
  • Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
