Tractor & Refer Trailer Mechanic
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Diesel Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a fleet consisting of 4 tractors and 20 refrigerated (reefer) trailers. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to ensuring the fleet operates safely and efficiently to meet operational demands. Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance and inspections on 4 diesel-powered tractors and 20 refrigerated trailers to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in tractors and reefer units, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and cooling systems. Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration systems on trailers, ensuring proper temperature control for perishable goods. Conduct preventive maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and lubrication of moving parts. Use diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex mechanical issues. Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work, including parts used and labor hours. Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and other relevant safety standards. Collaborate with fleet managers to schedule maintenance and minimize downtime. Keep the workshop and tools clean, organized, and in good working condition. Qualifications
DOT and Brake Certified High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in diesel mechanics preferred. Minimum of [2-5] years of experience as a diesel mechanic, with specific experience working on tractors and refrigerated trailers. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, heavy-duty vehicle systems, and refrigeration units. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools. Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety standards for commercial vehicles. Valid driver's license; Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods. Preferred Skills
Experience with specific tractor brands (Peterbilt and Kenworth) and reefer unit brands (Carrier and Thermo King). Welding and fabrication skills for minor repairs. Basic computer skills for logging maintenance records and using diagnostic software. Benefits
