Description The Sr. Staff Biostatistician will work closely with faculty and staff to design, implement, and analyze research projects among pediatric populations. This individual will play a key role to support translational science investigators and residents through both brief consultations and on-going long-term collaborations. In doing so, s/he must have a firm understanding of clinical research, epidemiological methods, biostatistics, and be able, with guidance, to choose the appropriate methods and analyses to address the needs of research questions. The Sr. Staff Biostatistician will be expected to use a health research database system (REDCap), and subsequently provide technical and general data management support to researchers using this tool. This individual will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and be able to work independently with investigators. S/he will provide methods sections for small grant proposals, methods and results sections for manuscripts and presentations and will serve as a mentor to Staff Biostatisticians.

Minimum Education Master's Degree Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or Epidemiology (Required) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or Epidemiology (Preferred)
Minimum Work Experience 5 years At least 5+ years' experience in each of these areas: Statistical Support for Grant Proposals, Data analysis and Results Reporting, and Scientific Publication. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge Ability to program using SAS, STATA, and/or R software. Experience with database management systems relevant to medical research
Functional Accountabilities
Conduct of Research Consistently demonstrate adherence with the standards for the responsible conduct of research Maintain confidentiality of data as required. Plan, conduct, and manage research and/or research intervention projects within the federal and institutional regulations and policies in collaboration with a principal investigator. Responsible for appropriate use of research funds and resources.
Study Design Support Support investigators with the development of study aims and research hypotheses. Provide design suggestions and alternatives to investigators for answering their aims including assessment of appropriateness and feasibility. Participate in grant writing as a collaborator with the principal investigator and write the statistical considerations section of a grant or a statistical core for larger grants such as program projects or center grants Develop the statistical considerations and analysis methods and the sample size considerations for a study. May supervise a staff statistician for actual calculations. Guide the data management team regarding proposed study in terms of database design. Review electronic case report form design to ensure that all evaluations in the study are being captured correctly in the case report forms.
Data Analysis Develop the detailed statistical analysis plan (SAP) based on the Division's Standard Operating Procedure for all studies requiring a plan. Perform or oversee a staff biostatistician performing statistical analyses and produce graphs. Summarize results and write technical reports to be provided to investigators, as well as write applicable sections (methods, results) for papers. Assist investigators with the implementation of analysis plans and the interpretation of results in preparation for publications of research findings Collaborate in producing manuscripts and conference presentations.
