As a Fiber Splicer on our Splicing team, your primary responsibilities include the ability to splice, test, and repair cables/wires in both indoor and outdoor settings, read, create, and maintain splicing diagrams, maintain activities surrounding the assigned work site, and take splicing field notes. What you'll do as a Fiber Splicer includes performing tasks associated with the electronic upgrade and splicing fiber optic cable, testing, activating, and troubleshooting equipment after installation, maintaining assigned vehicle as required, self-supervising all operations to ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications, safely operating and using a bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed, field training and controlling/overseeing the work of other Splicers when necessary, completing daily production reports, marking up maps, keeping track of work hours, completing "as-built maps" for areas built and tracking daily production, reconciling all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts, frequently working independently, performing general cleanup, providing accurate daily timekeeping, and other splicing related duties as assigned. Qualifications include having previous experience splicing copper, the ability to distinguish colors, the ability to read and build from blueprints and/or wire diagrams, knowledge of telecommunications network structure, a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position, the ability to maintain a current DOT health certificate, the ability to work in emergencies at night and weekends if needed, the ability to be on an on-call rotation, and regular travel as required. Physical requirements include standing, crouching, sitting, bending, using hands and fingers to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low, remote work, long driving and sitting, lifting/carrying 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance, and working in all weather conditions.
