Construction Manager – Capital Projects

*This position supports the night shift, with a normal start time of 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Additionally, there will be Saturdays during the 20-day hard outage around the December timeframe.

Our Capital Projects team is seeking a highly skilled Construction Manager to oversee contractor performance and support the successful delivery of capital projects in a highly regulated GMP manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to approach challenges strategically. Above all, this individual must embody our highest priorities— Safety, Quality, and Compliance —in every aspect of project execution.

About the Role

Capital projects typically under $5M may include facilities and utilities systems, process equipment lifecycle replacements, upgrades, and manufacturing improvements. The Construction Manager will support Project Managers to ensure contractors meet all company standards and requirements. This includes oversight of programs such as Contractor Pre-Qualification, Pre-Work Plans (PWP), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Method of Procedure (MOP), Chemical Use Request (CUR), and Crane Lift Plans.

Candidates must be adept at working within a 24/7 GMP manufacturing site , demonstrating strong coordination and communication skills to prevent disruption of ongoing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend daily coordination meetings and conduct safety talks prior to work initiation.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field, ensuring contractor safety and quality standards are met.
  • Ensure strict compliance with EHSS, Safety, and Compliance requirements.
  • Oversee multiple craft disciplines while coordinating activities across departments.
  • Serve as the eyes and ears of the assigned Project Manager, without directly directing contractor work.
  • Interpret “Issued for Construction” (IFC) drawings, including P&ID drawings.
  • Verify installed materials and equipment meet approved submittals.
  • Oversee installation and testing against specifications and standards.
  • Monitor construction progress and update status in alignment with project schedules.
  • Attend project meetings and maintain training compliance at a minimum of 95%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of field experience managing contractors and multiple craft disciplines.
  • Proven ability to lead teams across Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, and Civil/Structural/Architectural (CSA) trades.
  • Strong working knowledge of GMP biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated success in building relationships across multiple functions.
  • Skilled in negotiation, influence, and conflict resolution.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take on increasing responsibility.
