Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager I of the Criminal Justice Statistics Center, the Research Data Analyst (RDA) I collects, analyzes, and develops statistical reports and information which provides valid measures of crime and the criminal justice process in California as required by the Penal Code section 13010. The RDA I performs a wide range of data quality and other data integrity related tasks. The RDA I provides data management and maintenance support for one or more of the following data sets: Monthly Arrest and Citation Register, Crimes and Clearances, Juvenile Courts and Probation Statistical System, Senate Bill 54 data collection, HATE crimes and the National Incident Based Reporting System. The RDA I also participates in various activities to develop, implement, maintain, and enhance database protocols related to the above-mentioned data sets. Additionally, the RDA I may perform statistical analyses using the appropriate methodology; interpret, summarize, and clearly/concisely communicate data quality findings; and develop materials to include in mandated publications.

Working Conditions

This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.

This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Additional Salary Information

Please note that this classification contains multiple salary ranges. New-to-State employees will be given the minimum salary of Range A, unless you meet Alternate Range Criteria 87. For current state employees and/or those with reinstatement rights, your salary will be determined in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

Range A. This range shall apply to incumbents who do not meet the criteria for payment in Range B or Range C.

Range B. This range shall apply to persons who have satisfactorily completed 12 months of experience equivalent to that of Research Analyst I, Range A.

Range C. This range shall apply to persons who have satisfactorily completed either: (1) 12 months of technical or professional research experience equivalent to that of Analyst I, Range B, or (2) 24 months of experience equivalent to that of a Research Analyst I in the California state service, or (3) Equivalent to graduation from college with 12 semester or 18 quarter units course work in a data driven research-oriented field, such as economics, mathematics, psychology, sociology, demography, geography, anthropology, statistics, data science or a related research-oriented field. This must include or be supplemented by at least one course in statistical methods.

When the requirements for the particular criteria are met and upon recommendation of the appointing power, the employee shall receive a rate under the provisions California Code of Regulations, title 2, section 599.674, except that upon movement to Range C, the provisions of California Code of Regulations, title 2, section 599.676 shall apply.
