Summary The General Kitchen Worker is responsible for preparing, portioning, andserving food to residents, staff, and guests, and for ensuring the cleanlinessand readiness of dining areas and kitchen spaces. This position plays a vitalrole in maintaining high standards of food service and sanitation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following; other dutiesmay be assigned:
Healthcare Setting: • Assemble anddeliver floor supplies according to posted standards. • Readspreadsheets to determine quantities and types of food to be portioned. • Useappropriate dishes and portioning tools to serve hot and cold food intoindividual plates or containers. • Deliver hotcarts and return dirty dishes to assigned neighborhoods. • Set up diningrooms, steam tables, beverage carts, and refrigerator/ice bars for meals. • Read menus ortray tickets and serve appropriate food and beverages. • Ensure platesand china are at proper temperatures throughout service. • Clean steamtables and send hot boxes to the dish room. • Report to dishroom or perform dining room cleaning as assigned.
MainDining Room: • Setup dining room and wait stations before meals. • Takeresident orders and serve meals according to service standards. • Cleartables and clean dining areas after meals. • Wrapsilverware and stock wait stations. • Recordresident attendance and expedite food from kitchen to dining room.
Cafeteria: • Setup steam table, salad bar, and cold bar for service. • Prepareshort orders as requested. • Maintaincleanliness of the service area during meals. • Prepareand store food for night shift staff. • Prepfood for pizza, salad bar, and cold bar. • Operatethe cash register. • Cleanup all service areas at end of shift.
CoordinatorResponsibilities: • Setup dining room and wait stations before each meal. • Takeresident orders and serve meals according to standards. • Cleartables and clean the dining area. • Wrapsilverware and stock supplies. • Recordattendance and assist on the evening service line. • Overseeand check out servers during the evening shift.
GeneralDuties (All Areas): • Washand store dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and cooking equipment according topolicies. • Disposeof waste per department procedures. • Storefood and supplies properly. • Performscheduled general cleaning duties. • Maintainan organized, clean, and sanitary workspace. • Completeassigned duties within established timeframes. • Participatein department and organization-wide meetings, training, in-services, &educational programs.
SupervisoryResponsibilities This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Educationand/or Experience Less than a high school education is acceptable. Previous food serviceexperience is helpful but not required.
LanguageSkills Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short memos, and routinecorrespondence. Ability to write simple notes or messages.
MathematicalSkills Basic math skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divideusing American currency and standard measurements of weight, volume, anddistance.
ReasoningAbility Ability to apply common sense and follow simple one- or two-step instructions.Able to respond appropriately to standardized situations with limitedvariation.
PhysicalDemands This position requires regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity. Must beable to use hands, talk, hear, taste, and smell. Frequent reaching andoccasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, or crouching are required. Regularlylift and move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Visual demandsinclude close and distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depthperception, and focus adjustment.
