Description of Work Unit

The Graduate Degree Program in Ecology ( GDPE ) was the first interdisciplinary program in the history of CSU . It paved the way for five additional interdisciplinary programs that currently exist across campus. However, the formation of GDPE took 20 years and relied upon the persistence and commitment of many faculty, staff and administrators. The Cell and Molecular Biology ( CMB ) Graduate Program comprises over 100 faculty and ~50 MS and PhD students housed in 17 Departments throughout 6 Colleges at Colorado State University in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado.

Position Summary

The SAU Program Support Assistant provides support for two Special Academic Units ( SAU ): the Graduate Degree Program in Ecology ( GDPE ) and the Cell & Molecular Biology ( CMB ) Graduate Program. This position combines administrative coordination with science communication to support student success, enhance program visibility, and foster community engagement. The ideal candidate is organized, creative, detail-oriented, collaborative and passionate about communicating science and supporting graduate education.

Students pursuing degrees in Communications, Journalism, Life Sciences, or Business are encouraged to apply. Applicants from other disciplines are also welcome, particularly if their skills and interests align with the position's responsibilities and minimum qualifications.

Start and end dates are flexible, with the possibility of continued employment beyond the initial term. We are interested in hiring one or two students for this role. The position requires a commitment of 10 to 20 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility. The exact number of hours can be negotiated based on your availability.

Position Minimum Qualifications

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

·Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress), social media platforms, and digital media tools for content creation and design (e.g., Canva).

· A valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed)

· Organize and file records

· Work in CSU's Banner/ SCAIT system (e.g., to input instructors of variable credit courses)

· Process reimbursements, and assist with accounting

· Manage applicants through using the CSU SLATE system and send offer letters

· Schedule and coordinate staff and committee meetings

· Assist in planning events, including scheduling rooms, ordering food, set-up and break down of events, and keeping event materials organized

· Coordinate calendars across both GDPE and CMB programs

· Maintain and regularly update program websites to ensure content is accurate, accessible, and engaging

· Monitor the program email accounts, with responses that are timely, helpful, and welcoming; escalate or forward messages as appropriate

· Enhance social media presence by planning, creating, and scheduling posts to highlight program activities, research, and student/faculty achievements

· Compile and distribute weekly newsletters featuring important updates, deadlines, events, and opportunities for students and faculty

· Draft and edit blog posts, announcements, and promotional materials for events such as seminars, symposia, and orientations
