Job Summary:
The Community Resident Artist is responsible for working directly with students in the Yuma Union High School District's Mastery of the Arts Program (M.A.P.) to enhance their skills and artistic growth. This role involves leading hands-on classes, providing mentorship, and sharing artistic expertise to help students refine their craft in various art disciplines, such as visual arts, music, theater, and dance. The Community Resident Artist will also foster a strong sense of community by building relationships with students, sharing connections within their field, and engaging them in creative projects.
Essential Job Functions:
Works directly with M.A.P. students, providing high quality individual or group instruction in a specific art discipline (e.g., visual arts, music, theater, dance). This includes but is not limited to: implementing hands-on lessons, offering guidance on technique, creativity, and artistic expression. Lead by example and model professionalism to students through conduct, attitude, attendance, and punctuality. Monitor and assess students' progress in the arts, providing regular feedback and guidance. Work with M.A.P. faculty to evaluate student development and contribute to the grading process. Serve as a mentor to students, assessing and providing constructive feedback and encouragement. Support their artistic growth by helping them develop their unique creative voices, refine skills, and build confidence in their artistic abilities. Collaborate with M.A.P. faculty to design and implement art classes and events that align with the program's educational goals. Tailor lessons to meet the diverse needs of students, offering varied learning experiences. Help organize and participate in community-focused art events, exhibitions, or collaborative projects that showcase student work and encourage a sense of connection among students, faculty, and the broader community. Foster an inclusive and supportive environment where students can thrive creatively. Report to and collaborate with the Executive Director of M.A.P. to ensure alignment with program goals. Provide regular updates on student progress, offer feedback on the program, and help shape future initiatives. Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS
Required (Education & Experience)
Experience as a professional artist in a recognized art discipline (visual arts, music, theater, dance, etc.) Experience working directly with students or in educational settings is preferred Additional Eligibility Requirements
IVP Fingerprint Card Position Type & Work Schedule: (Full-time or Part-time, normal daily hours, months per year)
Part-time, 3 hours per week 9 months Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (required to do the job)
Interested in creative approaches to education Ability to inspire and motivate students through creative instruction Passion for teaching and mentoring students in the arts Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds Excellent communication skills, both oral and written Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines Maintain confidentiality Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team Work Conditions:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 25% sitting, 25% walking, and 50% standing.
