Patient Care Technician

With a commitment to patient and family centered care, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of the licensed clinical team members in ways that value the uniqueness of each individual and addresses the physiological, emotional, and social needs of the diversity of patients served by Jefferson Health. Essential Functions: Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Recognizes the patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values. Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners. Performs designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs under direction of licensed clinical team members. Actively promotes and maintains a safe patient care environment. May be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs. Provides assistance in maintaining supplies and equipment available to ensure efficient unit operations. Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required): Healthcare Knowledge - Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs and their role in interprofessional team. Execution of Delegated Tasks - Ability to complete delegated tasks within scope of role. Daily Living Assistance - Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, and ability to apply this knowledge to patients in need on a daily basis. Patient Safety - Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks. Patient-and Family-Centered Practice- Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family and/or designated care partner in care. Cultural Awareness- Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively. Effective Communication- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques, ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and health care.
