Accountant Position

Under supervision, performs professional accounting duties at the intermediate level where the position works independently on moderately complex accounting assignments, and performs related duties as required.

Essential duties include:

  • Coding, recording, and updating journal entries (e.g., expenditures, account transfers, budget revisions) using manual and computerized spreadsheets
  • Auditing financial documents to ensure entries are accurate, appropriately allocated to accounts, and comply with contract and funding guidelines, and documenting errors and reconciling accounts, as required
  • Monitoring account balances and adjusting spending levels and fund re-allocations to ensure the availability of funds to cover expenditures
  • Preparing various reports (e.g., program and operating budgets, financial statements, balance sheets, financial reports) of a moderately complex nature using computer spreadsheets
  • Analyzing historical records and anticipated economic trends, and forecasting future expenses and revenues
  • Participating in the compilation and analysis of fiscal data for inclusion in complex financial reports
  • Processing payments for various parties (e.g., editing, reapplying, and confirming receipt of payments, processing direct and order payment vouchers for grant-funded programs)

Additional duties may be required for this position.

Location: 121 N LaSalle (City Hall), and 2 N LaSalle

Days: Monday Friday

Hours: 8:30 am 4:30 pm

This position is in the Career Service.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education, Training, and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a directly related field with 15 semester hours in Accounting; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, provided that the minimum degree requirement is met.

Note: You must provide your college or university transcripts with 15 semester hours of accounting courses at the time of the interview.

  • Willing to learn, has initiative, and thrives in a team environment

Selection Requirements:

  • This position requires applicants to take an Excel and Writing exercises.
