The Department of Conservation and Recreation is responsible for the protection of natural resources across Massachusetts and manages one of the largest parks systems in the nation. DCR is a dynamic agency with over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, trails and parkways. The Department seeks applicants for the position:

Professional Pathways into Forestry, Short-Term Seasonal Forestry Assistant, Forest Products . The Professional Pathway into Forestry program provides entry?level job experience for those interested in pursuing a career in forestry. Arboriculture, forestry, and natural resource students from technical, undergraduate, and graduate programs are encouraged to apply. The position runs from ASAP to November 22nd with some flexibility to accommodate academic commitments of the selected applicant. Applicants must be 18 years or older to apply. Responsibilities

Start the season with the DCR Forest Products Crew creating firewood for community wood banks. Operate a log splitter, cut logs with a chainsaw, dry firewood, and measure wood moisture content to become proficient in a production environment. Transition to manufacturing lumber with a Wood-Mizer portable sawmill for state park projects. Scale logs, stack lumber for drying, and grade lumber. On rain or heat days, opportunities exist to explore various wood manufacturing operations and/or participate in self-directed training based on an approved work plan. Maintain accurate production records, purchase fuel, document wood moisture content, submit timesheets, and file mileage reports. Support community capacity building and participate in documenting program achievements for posting on social media and the department website. Use a government-issued computer and demonstrate basic competency in Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Work with 8 towns and community organizations to recycle storm-damaged trees into firewood, contributing to energy access and climate-related objectives. Comply with safety protocols and maintain a clean working environment; complete strenuous arboricultural work as needed. Drive light-duty state vehicles; possess a valid Massachusetts Class D Drivers License. Backing up trailers is preferable. Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum Entrance Requirements

At least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in forestry or natural resource management, or An Associates or higher degree with a major in forestry or forestry management (substitution for the required experience; education toward such a degree will be prorated). Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License. Comprehensive Benefits
