We are seeking an experienced and strategic Purchasing Manager to oversee our clients company procurement activities, ensuring the acquisition of high-quality goods, services, and materials at the best possible value. The ideal candidate is a skilled negotiator and leader who can optimize purchasing strategies, build strong supplier relationships, and drive cost-saving initiatives while mitigating supply chain risk. Essential duties and responsibilities Strategic sourcing and negotiation : Develop and implement proactive purchasing strategies to achieve organizational goals for cost optimization, quality, and supply chain efficiency. Identify, evaluate, and select new suppliers and vendors based on quality, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and ethical and sustainability standards. Lead and execute contract negotiations to secure favorable pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules. Supplier relationship management : Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key vendors to foster collaboration and improve service delivery. Conduct regular business reviews with top suppliers to evaluate performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify opportunities for improvement. Mediate and resolve any disputes or issues with suppliers regarding quality, timeliness, or contract adherence. Operational oversight : Manage the daily purchasing activities of buyers and purchasing agents, including processing and reviewing purchase orders. Monitor and manage inventory levels to prevent shortages and minimize excess stock. Coordinate purchasing needs and schedules with internal departments such as production, logistics, and finance. Ensure all procurement activities and documentation comply with company policies and regulatory requirements. Budgeting and analysis : Prepare and manage budgets for the purchasing department and related procurement activities. Conduct market research and spend analysis to identify trends, forecast material costs, and pinpoint opportunities for cost reduction. Develop and track key departmental metrics and present performance reports to senior management. Process improvement and leadership : Lead, mentor, and train purchasing staff to enhance team performance and drive continuous process improvements. Implement and utilize modern procurement software and systems (e.g., ERP systems) to streamline purchasing processes. Stay current with purchasing technology trends and industry best practices. Key performance indicators (KPIs) Cost savings : Documented savings achieved through effective negotiation, sourcing, and process improvements. Supplier performance : Measured by on-time delivery rate, quality (defect rate), and contract compliance. Emergency purchase ratio : The percentage of unplanned or emergency purchases compared to the total number of purchases, indicating forecasting effectiveness. Purchase order (PO) cycle time : The total time from purchase requisition to the completion of payment. Spend under management : The percentage of total company spend controlled by the procurement department, minimizing maverick spending. Required skills and qualifications A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is typically required, along with 5 or more years of purchasing or procurement experience, including supervisory experience. Candidates should have a strong background in negotiation, strategic sourcing, and vendor management, and possess deep knowledge of inventory management, supply chain principles, and best practices. Proficiency in ERP systems (like SAP or Oracle) and purchasing software is often necessary. Strong analytical, quantitative, leadership, and communication skills are essential. Preferred qualifications A Master's degree in a related field and professional certifications like CPP or CSCP can be beneficial. Experience with global sourcing, international logistics, and industry-specific regulations is also often preferred.
