Position Summary: Electrician

The Electrician position is a skilled crafts position stationed at the Capitol Complex, reporting to the Physical Plant Supervisor Senior. This role involves performing skilled electrical and electronic system work. The Office of Facilities and Property Management will provide on-the-job training to the successful candidate, with the expectation that the employee will attain the skills necessary to perform the work of an Electrician Senior.

The Electrician's duties and responsibilities include:

  • Planning, constructing, and installing new electrical systems in the interior and exterior of the Capitol Complex buildings and grounds. These systems are constructed or installed based on requests from housed agencies or changes in building mechanical systems. Work involves cutting, shaping, and fastening conduit, flexible conduit, and wire mold conduit to meet project requirements. All electrical work must conform to the requirements of the Uniform Electrical Code, which pertains to Life Safety, as these applications are used by individuals or groups. Basic understanding of fire alarm and security systems is required.
  • Diagnosing and correcting electrical problems to prevent loss of work time for state employees. Replacing ballasts, re-lamping, and cleaning light fixtures to improve lighting levels while conserving energy. Operating building automation systems and responding to service requests regarding heating and cooling issues.
  • Installing power, data, and computer cables through ceilings, walls, and floors for OITS and other agencies, following all applicable Uniform Electrical Code requirements. Disassembling and reassembling air handlers, floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, and motors to replace defective bearings, belts, and other mechanical parts using mechanical knowledge and skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Six months of experience in electrical work is required. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Must be capable of performing strenuous physical labor such as lifting, pushing, and pulling to move equipment. Ability to climb ladders and work from scaffolding and ladders is required. Must be able to lift or negotiate the movement of up to 50 lbs.
