The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Bethel, the regional hub and location of the only hospital in the region, has a population of nearly 7,000. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta is home to thousands of lakes and two primary rivers—the Kuskokwim and Yukon.

Position Summary: This position is responsible for effective and efficient management of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). Manages the day-to-day activities of this multifaceted, highly regulated, complex program; ensures that enrollment totals meet or exceed the state allocations; coordinates activities across state with WIC local agencies and federal programs (YKHC Immunizations/Well Child, Head Start, MCH programs and Medicaid); oversees the program budget; manages and maintains a caseload of about 2,500 persons; communicates information about the program to agencies and organizations, and to the public locally and nationally; compiles information and responds to questions on program activities; complies with appropriate state and federal statutes governing program operation; participates in planning/task force committees locally and nationally; writes grants to secure additional funding; commits agency resources for joint projects; implements joint projects; participates in management review of other local WIC agencies; coordinates training for paraprofessionals to become WIC Certified Paraprofessional Authorities (CPAs) and provides training for dietetic interns from UAA. The incumbent will be required to conduct village travel for client recertification and vendor inspection. Performs other pertinent duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
Minimum Education: BS Degree, current Registered Dietitian status OR Master's Degree with emphasis in public, community, or maternal/child health required. Master's degree can be substituted with three years progressive experience in WIC. Minimum Experience: Two years supervisory experience preferred. License, Certification, Registration: If applicable, ADA registration and State of Alaska Licensure. Must maintain status. Equipment/Tools: Computer, Hemocue machine, microcuvettes, unostix, weighing scale, breast pumps Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Supervisory experience in a public health nutrition program, knowledge of the principles and practices of nutrition and diet therapy, fiscal and human resource management, developing policies and procedures, writing grants, cross-cultural communication, excellent people skills and strong character. Moderate computer skills and familiarity with common software applications. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises dietitian/nutritionists, WIC Technicians and CPA's
