The G70 Hematology and Oncology Unit focuses on the diagnoses and treatment of various malignancies and hematologic diseases, from new diagnosis to the end of life. The dedicated caregivers on this unit provide the highest quality, safest care to adult patients receiving chemotherapy, targeted cancer therapies, radioactive iodine and other types of radiation therapies. Within six months of starting on this unit, nurses can become "chemo-competent" and become experts at administering chemotherapy and understanding chemotherapy reactions.

A caregiver in this PRN/flexible schedule nurising position, works 7:00am 7:30pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will: Provide direct nursing care.

Implement and monitor patient care plans.

Monitor, record and communicate patients' conditions.

Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.

Assess and coordinate patients' discharge needs.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Graduate from an accredited S chool of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)

or

American Red Cross

If in a Critical Care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification must be presented upon hire or within first year of employment

External applicants

must have two years recent related nursing experience

Internal applicants

with less than two years' experience but post orientation / 90 day probationary period could be considered with Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval

Successfully pass all prescreen competency assessments

Will consider licensed military RN experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Bachelor 's of S cience in N ursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
