Summary/Objective: The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the construction projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. As a leader on-site, the Superintendent coordinates subcontractors, enforces safety protocols, and acts as the field representative of Speedwell Construction. This role requires someone who leads by example and consistently upholds our core values of diligence, respect, humility, and a sense of urgency. Essential Functions: Coordinate and manage the daily activities of over 20 subcontractors, consultants, and vendors to keep work on the critical path and ensure timely project completion Ensure that the subcontractor is executing and complying with their scope of work and correcting all deficiencies identified by the project team Lead subcontractor and preconstruction meetings to align teams on schedule, scope, and jobsite expectations Conduct regular quality control checks to confirm that work meets design specifications and company standards Proactively identify field conflicts or construction issues and communicate them clearly to the project team for resolution Communicate with the project team on material submittals, Request for Information (RFI), and other technical or logistical issues affecting field operations Maintain accurate and timely daily reports using company reporting software to document progress, delays, weather, manpower, and site conditions Ensure the project is executed in compliance with all local township codes, inspection requirements, and permitting conditions Promote and maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site that reflects company standards and supports productivity Enforce all OSHA regulations and company-specific safety protocols; hold subcontractors accountable to Speedwell Safety Standards at all times Competencies: People Skills: listens to others, maintains confidentiality, tactfully resolves conflicts, and takes ownership of outcomes without shifting responsibility to others Oral Communication: speaks clearly and respectfully, participates actively in meetings, seeks clarification, and responds to questions with confidence Written Communication: reads and writes effectively; produces clear documentation and communications; reviews work for grammar and accuracy Teamwork: Builds morale, balances team and individual responsibilities, encourages collaboration, and welcomes feedback Customer Service: Actively listens and responds appropriately to client needs – even in demanding situations – with professionalism and urgency Professionalism: treats others with respect and consideration, accepts responsibility for actions, and consistently follows through on commitments Planning/Organizing: Effectively prioritizes tasks, manages time efficiently, and coordinates the efforts of multiple stakeholders and trades Adaptability: Maintains effectiveness amid shifting priorities, delays, or unexpected site conditions; adjusts plans as needed to keep progress on track Attendance/Punctuality: Consistently arrives at job sites and meetings on time and ready to lead Dependability: Follows instructions, meets deadlines, and notifies the project manager of any necessary adjustments with appropriate urgency and judgment Initiative: Seeks out responsibility, volunteers for new challenges, and actively pursues self-improvement and development opportunities Problem Solving & Decision Making: Analyzes new information to make sound decisions and adapt plans in ways that support both current and future project success Technical Knowledge: Demonstrates working knowledge of OSHA requirements, safety regulations, and how they apply on active construction sites Construction Documentation: Reads and interprets blueprints, plans, and specifications to guide work in the field and ensure accurate execution Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the daily management of the job site activities and personnel. They may also serve as coaches or resources for other positions in the company. Work Environment: The employee will be located on an active outdoor or indoor job site. The employee will frequently encounter extreme temperatures, high noise levels, airborne particles, and construction equipment. Personal protective equipment and other safety gear must be used as required in certain situations. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, with extended hours as needed to meet deadlines. Physical Demands: The field superintendent must have the ability and endurance to visit the job site. They must be able to sit, climb, crawl, walk, stand for extended periods, cross uneven terrain, navigate obstacles, kneel, stoop, crouch, use their hands, reach, pull, and drive. The employee must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally. The employee spends a portion of their day using office equipment, which may cause eye or muscle strain. Visual and auditory acuity are required to perform inspection and communicate effectively on-site. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is an exempt, full-time position. The work hours are Monday through Friday, with 50 hours per week being the expectation. The employee may have to work evenings or weekends as required. Travel: The employee is required to travel to their job site. The employee will occasionally travel for educational training. Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent Familiarity with a variety of construction trades Basic understanding of construction-related information technology and software tools Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and schedules 5 + years of previous experience in the construction industry 3+ years of experience specifically in jobsite management Demonstrated ability to lead field crews and manage multiple subcontractors with minimal supervision OSHA 10-hour certification; OSHA 30-hour certification strongly preferred CPR/First Aid certification preferred Work Authorization/Clearances: The employee must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and Motor Vehicle Record review. The employee must have a current driver's license. This is a safety-sensitive position.
