GENERAL PURPOSE:

The project engineer is a liaison of information between the project executives, the consultants and other project stakeholders involved in CenterCal’s projects. The project engineer reports to the V.P. of Construction and helps manage/document/track the design and construction process for multiple projects including the estimating and bidding processes, coordinating work, and delivering requirements with project executives, general contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, and site subcontractors. The project engineer works in conjunction with other members of the development, LL Work, construction, contracts, and accounting departments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Confer with management and staff to discuss project specifications or procedures and manage project records. Assist V.P. of Construction by assembling quantity surveys and reviewing all project RFPs, C&A (Clarifications and Assumptions), budgets, RFIs, and contracts for consultants and contractors, and support back up relating to change requests for Construction Coordinator to process. Develop and maintain cooperative long-term relationships with Project contractors and vendors. Track drawing submittal and RFI logs for construction projects based on project drawings and specifications. Notify V.P. of Construction of any delays executing the documentation. Schedule, lead and record all required construction meetings with required staff, contractors, architects, and owners including preparing and maintaining meeting minutes. Distribute accordingly and timely utilizing AI software. Utilize software tools: schedule and document management to track and record project performance. Document construction quality and progress of each Project’s contractors and consultants. Update contractors and consultants of any Owner driven changes to the plans, specifications and/or schedule. Prioritize each Project’s deadlines by ensuring Architects and Consultants are distributing plans, specifications, schedules, and changes to shared file system in a timely manner. Navigate and maintain documents and files within existing folder structure. Track and record final requirement documentation to contractors, consultants, accounting, and property management. Ensure timely completion of all required project close-out documents per project. Review and approve Contractor pay applications for accuracy, contract compliance and work progress. Final approval shall be by the Vice President Construction. Prepare, and amend cost control logs immediately upon notification of changes.

Miscellaneous Provide support to the Executives, Construction teams as needed. Assist Project Managers with project reports, meeting notes, change order logs, control logs and other data to monitor deliverables. Assist Project Managers with permits/Government agencies letters, filings, permit tracking and paperwork.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Please note that the minimum qualifications may vary based upon the department size and/or geographic location.

Knowledge: Project engineer’s preference is to have a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline, engineering technology, construction management, or related field. With a B.S. degree, a minimum of 1-3 years’ experience as a project engineer or 5 years’ experience without a B.S. degree. Microsoft office and Microsoft Project. Smartsheet experience. Estimating software experience.

Nature of work requires an ability to effectively communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, and operate standard business office equipment. Ability to climb up and down a ladder and move around construction sites. Exposure to dust, dirt or other construction hazards during site visits.

Travels as required to meet accountabilities.

Work performed in a general office environment and at construction/property sites. May require extended hours during peak periods. Frequent day and overnight travel to Meridian Idaho or other properties as required meeting attendance and on-site project management duties.
