Primary Job Description The Creative Director is responsible for leading design teams in the creation, concept development, and implementation of Downstream projects. The Creative Director supervises design resources and concepts for projects, including staff guidance, project vision, thematic narratives and storyboards, graphic design, 3D environmental display design, interactive design, and other creative solutions. This key leadership position involves working with account leads and project management to ensure that deliverables satisfy the client, are delivered on time and on budget, and support overall project goals.

Supervisor Responsibilities The Downstream leadership team will work with you to establish personal goals annually. These goals will be set collaboratively to create clear expectations for growth and development. The leadership team will also partner with you to manage junior staff, build productive design teams, and contribute to business success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Establish the overall design vision, philosophy, and processes for design teams. Provide design leadership and mentoring to designers as they create concepts and execute design solutions. Lead thematic and concept creation for graphic, environmental, and media design. Develop new ways to visualize and document design and brand concepts. Present concepts to clients and support design teams in presentations. Coordinate and facilitate communication across project and production teams. Collaborate with key production leads—including post-production managers, project managers, producers, and interactive/motion/graphics teams—to ensure the design vision is executed consistently and with high quality. Establish and maintain business processes for the design teams, defining deliverables for each stage of design (e.g., thematic narrative, concept design, design development, production design, file management, project tracking, and timeline management). Recruit new designers and act as a leader in shaping and nurturing the company’s culture. Monitor and manage budgets and schedules for projects across all phases of development. Partner with the executive team to build and maintain profitable business practices.

Other Duties Recruit future design talent and actively engage in local and national design communities. Explore innovative concepts for building brand messaging in the built environment. Help establish and refine project workflow processes and procedures. Bring new business and design solutions to the management team to ensure that cutting-edge design remains at the forefront of Downstream’s work. Leading and building a world-class design team. Realizing design concepts and fostering long-term client success. Supporting design teams as they increase efficiency in executing design concepts (e.g., mentorship, software proficiency such as SketchUp, file management, and management of external design resources).
