GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION Responsible for product selection, placement, promotional activity and pricing for all products with assigned categories. Negotiates merchandise contracts with vendors. Tracks overall sales performance within their assigned categories and develops assortment, promotions and category plans to achieve sales and margin targets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for decision making for supplier contracts, program selection, pricing and new products selection. Meet yearly financial performance goals while maintaining the long-term health of assigned categories. Establish and maintain productive and insightful communication with all levels of Murphy USA management, supplier network and store personnel. Provide customer focused support to field personnel at all levels for merchandising and category issues. Analyze category data, monitor trends and develop reports to keep internal business partners and management updated on the health of assigned categories and programs. Negotiate contracts to support financial goals and to generate new ideas and programs for assigned categories. Maximize vendor rebate programs and ensure funding meets or exceeds contract agreements. Monitor and influence supply chains as necessary to ensure product availability and achievement of category objectives. Develop and execute annual category business plans including SWOT analysis, sales and margin analyses, and growth initiatives. Develop product assortment, merchandising standards, planograms and promotion calendars to improve sales and margin for the category. Create merchandise promotions and materials to improve sales and margin for the assigned categories. Work with internal partners to ensure all items are properly setup in the pricebook and all rebates and discounts are properly accounted for. Establish and maintain effective business relationships with field personnel, manufacturers, distributors, internal partners to benefit the category objectives. Maintain current perspective on industry trends and changes through vendor relationships, category focused learning opportunities, and trade shows. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, merchandising, marketing, negotiation, business administration, etc. Equivalent to a four-year college degree, plus 5 years related experience and/or training, and 4 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals; Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, partners, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, margins, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Category Management certifications preferred. Depending on category, certification in field may be necessary to develop business plans and training for programs e.g. food safety, tobacco & alcohol compliance, anti-trust laws.
