Macdonald & Company is pleased to be exclusively partnered with a Chicago-based real estate developer to appoint a Development Manager who will contribute to the delivery of complex mixed-use and multifamily projects.

Overview The group is seeking a driven professional to guide and execute high-profile development initiatives across residential and mixed-use assets. This role is responsible for advancing projects from early planning through delivery, ensuring alignment with financial targets, regulatory frameworks, and design objectives. The position requires a balance of strategic oversight, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate across diverse teams and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities Direct multiple development assignments simultaneously, managing timelines, budgets, and consultant teams. Conduct due diligence, feasibility analysis, and financial modeling to assess new opportunities. Oversee entitlement, permitting, and municipal approval processes in collaboration with public and private stakeholders. Lead coordination among architects, engineers, and contractors to maintain project quality and compliance with design intent. Monitor construction activity and proactively resolve challenges related to schedule, cost, or scope. Support leasing and marketing strategies in partnership with internal teams to maximize asset performance. Maintain awareness of market trends, land opportunities, and regulatory updates that influence development strategy. Build strong external relationships with local agencies, neighborhood groups, and other partners. Prepare investment packages, progress updates, and presentations for internal leadership.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in real estate, urban development, architecture, engineering, or a related discipline. Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in real estate development or project management. Demonstrated involvement in residential, mixed-use, or multifamily projects from acquisition through completion. Experience managing third-party consultants, contractors, and large-scale project teams.

Skills & Competencies Solid understanding of land planning, zoning, entitlement processes, and construction management. Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and project forecasting. Ability to interpret and coordinate technical drawings across disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP, landscape, etc.). Strong communication and negotiation abilities with a track record of stakeholder management. Highly organized, adaptable, and capable of leading multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with sustainable design standards or certification frameworks is advantageous.
