Senior Art Director
Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid – 3x/week in-office or on set)
MATE the Label is looking for an exceptional and forward-thinking
Senior Art Director
to join our growing Brand Creative Team. This is a unique opportunity to shape the creative identity of a clean, conscious brand redefining the standards of sustainability in fashion.
You will lead the visual expression of the MATE brand across all consumer touch points—from campaign concepting to shoot direction to digital, print, and social execution. You’ll bring an elevated, strategic lens to every creative output, while embracing innovation and new technologies—including AI—to drive efficiency and push creative boundaries.
Lead the visual direction and execution of brand campaigns, site assets, performance marketing creative, OOH, packaging, and social layouts Concept and present compelling storyboards, moodboards, and layouts that reflect the MATE aesthetic and values for monthly in studio photoshoots Own and drive MATE’s upcoming brand refresh (alongside agency partner) —helping evolve our visual identity across all touchpoints while staying rooted in our mission Elevate our current PDP imagery across the site with an emphasis on refined styling and fabric storytelling Oversee external design team and network of creative freelancers, ensuring brand consistency and creative excellence across all assets Regularly update and evolve templates and design systems to keep content fresh, high-performing, and on-brand Maintain an expert-level understanding of clean design trends, visual culture, and sustainability-focused storytelling
8+ years of art direction and design experience, preferably in fashion, beauty, or lifestyle brands (***must have 5+ years of fashion experience) ~ Strong creative portfolio demonstrating elevated design, campaign ideation, and photo direction ~ Deep understanding of brand storytelling across owned and paid channels ~ Expert in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), Figma, and working knowledge of motion graphics (After Effects or similar) ~ Experience with AI-powered creative tools (e.g. Midjourney, Runway, Firefly, DALL·E) and a curious mindset around emerging creative tech ~ Proven ability to manage multiple projects with a high degree of ownership, organization, and creativity ~ Based in LA and available to be on set or in the office at least 3x/week
Experience with e-commerce brands focused on sustainability or wellness Strong network of freelance creatives to tap to bring ideas to life Familiarity with Shopify and digital content best practices Photography or motion experience a plus
