Position: We seek a motivated and highly skilled Research Associate to perform research experiments as defined by the supervisor and provide operational support to the laboratory. The ideal applicant will be a motivated individual with experience in protein purification and

in vitro

assay development.

Key Responsibilities

: · Use existing protocols to purify recombinant proteins to provide to the UPS community. · Support scientists in bacterial transformations, expression analysis, large-scale harvest, large-scale purification, and analytical characterization of protein products. ·

Develop new purification protocols using chromatographic methods, including affinity, ion exchange, SEC Chromatography, HIC, etc. ·

Characterize protein purity and activity using analytical SEC, DSF, and qualitative enzymatic assays. ·

Develop expression, purification, and labeling methods for custom projects and new catalog products. Characterize enzymatic activity using a combination of qualitative and quantitative assays for analysis ·

Perform additional job-related duties as required, such as reagent preparation, ordering, and maintaining an ELN ·

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

: BS or MS in Biology, Biochemistry, or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience including purifying recombinant proteins.. Experience using techniques such as buffer preparation, bacterial fermentation using shaker flasks, SDS-PAGE, ELISA and Western Blot analysis. · A strong understanding of chromatography techniques, including ion exchange and size exclusion. Experience using FPLC or HPLC systems is a plus. · Some lab experience in IEX, HIC, AKTA purification, SEC-HPLC, SDS-PAGE, UV/Vis spectrophotometry · Experience with aseptic techniques and bacterial cultures. A strong work ethic within a team environment. · Basic understanding of lab safety and protocols (GLP) This is a full-time, on-site role.
