Fire Sprinkler Systems Designer

Sprinkler Design Engineer –Fire Alarm Design- Fire Protection Design- Fire Suppression

Our client specializes in the design and implementation of fire protection and life-safety systems across commercial, industrial, and institutional projects and is looking to add an experienced Systems Designer to the engineering team, with strong technical design experience (Fire Sprinkler and/or Fire Alarm) and excellent communications skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed sprinkler system layouts and design drawings in compliance with NFPA standards, building codes, and local jurisdiction requirements.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and system sizing to ensure proper performance.
  • Prepare fabrication drawings, stock lists, technical submittals, and material takeoffs.
  • Produce accurate and efficient designs using programs such as AutoCAD, Revit, AutoSPRINK, SprinkCAD, HydraCAD, HydraCALC, and HydraLIST.
  • Work with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and AHJs to ensure code-compliant and constructible designs.
  • Review contract documents, specifications, and site conditions to determine project requirements.
  • Support project managers in design scheduling, budgeting, and progress tracking.
  • Assist during construction by reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits as required.
  • Provide accurate as-built drawings and support final inspections.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to deliver coordinated fire protection solutions.
  • Mentor junior designers and CAD staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Drafting/Design Technology or related field required.
  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering a plus.
  • 5–10 years of proven experience designing fire sprinkler and/or fire alarm systems.
  • NICET Level II or higher in Water-Based Systems Layout a plus
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA standards, International Building/Fire Codes, and local codes.
  • Proficiency in software programs such as AutoCAD, Revit, AutoSPRINK, SprinkCAD, HydraCAD, HydraCALC, and HydraLIST.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, and material specifications.
  • Ability to read and coordinate with architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines with attention to detail.
