Job Summary:
Sunrise Brands (RTW Division) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical Designer with a contemporary apparel background to join our Technical Design team. The ideal candidate will lead the technical design process- ensuring fit, quality, and construction standards are maintained across all styles. In this role, you will collaborate closely with Design, Production, and our Overseas partners across all categories of denim, knit and soft woven womenswear. The Senior Technical Designer will work independently with the support of the Director of Technical Design and will lead the fit process for the contemporary team.
Candidates must have excellent time management and organizational skills and experience working in a fast paced apparel brand. This role requires at least 8-10 years of working experience in Technical Design. The Senior Technical Designer manages sample fit approvals, risk assessment, calendar and workflow for their specified garment categories. This role requires a high level of communication, technical pattern making, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the contemporary brand’s Technical Design team to organize fit schedules, establish and implement fit standards, communicate updates to our overseas team and maintain calendar milestones for on-time delivery. Manage fit sessions and work closely with Design to understand the creative vision of the line. Book models for live fit sessions. Review and fit samples on a live model and form to provide fit recommendations and direction. Develop technical specs in Centric PLM and follow fit from development through bulk production. Collaborate and work closely with Production, Design, Sales and Overseas teams. Provide technical recommendations to the Design staff to create consistency of fit and construction to help achieve design concepts and category initiatives. Ability to handle a high quantity of styles in all categories of denim, wovens, sweaters and knits. Review and evaluate sample measurements and construction of all fit samples to determine they are meeting intended design requirements. Issue revised product specifications and fit correction comments after the fittings. This includes photo or sketch corrections and pattern correction images as necessary. Work with the Production Team in meeting timelines and communicating the necessary information to the overseas factories. Check all grading and tolerances are updated properly for bulk production. Follow through with questions and requests from overseas partners via email. Ensure consistency in all techpacks is maintained for the brand. Manage sample organization for the brand. Maintain a positive, leadership mindset.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, Pattern making or a related field is required. 8-10 years of experience in apparel technical design with relevant experience in pattern making, fit, grading and apparel manufacturing. 2 years of management experience. Must have 2+ years denim bottoms experience. Must be proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Excel, and PLM systems. Experience with Centric PLM is highly preferred. Experience in launching a new brand is a plus. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and meet seasonal deadlines. Experience working with overseas vendors in a corporate apparel environment. Excellent attention to detail. Must be able to identify problems as well as create solutions to correct the issue. Ability to work closely in collaboration with all cross functional partners. Proactive in following through with multiple priorities. Team player mindset. Must be able to work onsite 5 days a week in our office which is based in Midtown Manhattan. This is not a hybrid role. Must be authorized to work in the US.
