Our mission is to engineer an environmentally and socially regenerative planet. Will you join us?Role SummarySherwood is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support our Water/Wastewater team. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineering disciplines to create solutions for infrastructure challenges, design water, wastewater and water reuse systems, and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include leading technical scopes of work, maintaining client relationships, directing quality management to keep work on track and within scope and budget, and developing team members’ strengths.ResponsibilitiesLead technical scopes of work for water, wastewater, and water reuse infrastructure.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated design solutions.Build and maintain client relationships; manage scope, budget, and schedule.Direct quality management processes to ensure on-time, on-scope delivery.Develop and mentor team members.Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and clients.Prepare and advance plan sets through all project phases, including providing redlines for drafters.Support construction administration of water, wastewater, and water reuse systems.Perform process and hydraulic calculations; develop cost estimates; generate process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and general process layouts.Read and interpret technical documents and drawings; operate treatment plants and conduct pilot studies, monitoring, sampling, analysis and reporting as needed.Engage subconsultants and coordinate across teams to develop design solutions.Comply with state and local regulations in engineering design."QualificationsTypically 12+ years of industry experience.Bachelor’s degree in Engineering - Civil and/or Environmental.Strong water/wastewater technical background with knowledge of physical and chemical treatment processes, including water reuse.Experience across project phases: conceptual design, detailed design, and construction administration.Experience preparing technical reports, documentation, and presentations for stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and clients.Experience developing plan set packages through all project phases, including providing redlines for drafters.Experience with construction administration of water, wastewater, and/or water reuse systems.Experience with process and hydraulic calculations; cost estimation; process & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs); general layouts; hydraulics and piping diagrams.Familiarity with SCADA systems and automated controls for water and wastewater systems.Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.Experience with operation of treatment plants and/or pilot studies, monitoring and reporting.Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work in a team and manage multiple projects.Excellent communication and problem-solving skills; ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and work independently.Preferred SkillsExperience in a consulting environment.Ability to collaborate with civil, mechanical, and electrical teams to integrate design solutions.Experience with advanced water treatment technologies (e.g. membrane filtration, UV disinfection).Knowledge of water, wastewater, and water reuse regulations and permitting processes in California and the United States.Experience with startup, commissioning and operations & maintenance of water/wastewater systems.Hydraulic modeling experience (gravity and pressure networks).Experience with pump station design and cost estimation of water/wastewater infrastructure.Familiarity with Civil 3D, PCSWMM, SewerCAD, and other civil/hydraulic design software.Familiarity with water/wastewater process modeling software (e.g., BioWin, GPS-X).Professional Engineer (PE) license.Certifications or sustainability-oriented accreditation (LEED, Envision, Living Building Challenge, EcoDistricts) preferred.Expected OutcomesDevelop and lead high-quality, sustainable engineering solutions for clients, including process evaluation, facilities planning, engineering design, permitting and compliance, construction administration and operations planning.Prepare and review calculations, design criteria and technical memorandums.Collaborate across teams and engage subconsultants to develop integrated design solutions.Implement quality assurance and quality control through all project phases.Plan, assign, and direct work of design engineers to meet project deliverables.Contribute to staff development through training and mentoring.Create and implement innovative design techniques to enhance company productivity.Ensure designs comply with current state and local regulations.Serve as an effective interface between the client project team and the consulting team, conveying technical information professionally.Work independently under general supervision and exercise sound judgment on design decisions.What We OfferOwn a part of the firm with ESOP eligibility after one yearFlexible working with every other Friday offCompetitive health plans (PPO and HMO), dental and vision plansLearning and Development stipendGenerous PTO and eight paid holidaysAutomatic 401(k) enrollmentTeam events, lunches and socialsOpportunity to help the environmentCompensationThe wage range reflects factors such as skill, experience, licensure, and business needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $131,000 to $161,000.The disclosed range has not been adjusted for geographic differentials where the position may be filled.
