Position Summary:The Engineer I, Optical will work hands-on to qualify optical components and systems that are revolutionizing DNA sequencing.
Potential Responsibilities:* Construct and qualify optical test apparatuses.* Test optical components and assemblies on the optics bench.* Conduct system level tests of standard and modified optical subsystems operating in sequencing instruments.* Execute protocols for highly accelerated life tests (HALT) and highly accelerated stress tests (HAST) of optical components and assemblies.* Conduct failure analyses, potentially using outside analytical laboratories (SEM, TEM, surface profiling, etc.).* Operate optical test apparatuses including but not limited to
lasers (power noise, polarization extinction ratio, wavelength spectra, beam pointing, M-squared, etc.), lenses and windows (wavefront error, transmission spectra, birefringence, etc.), fiber optics (insertion loss, return loss, PER, mechanical properties, split ratios, etc.).* Work with the semiconductor integrated devices team to test optical performance of consumable sequencing chips.Required Qualifications:* Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.* Coding skills (Matlab, Python or others) including control of instrumentation, data acquisition, data analysis, and data visualization.* Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.Preferred Experience:* Familiarity with optical science or engineering is a plus.* Familiarity with SolidWorks and 3d printing is a plus.This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.This role is required to be 100% onsite.You may be required from time to time to visit and work at PacBio locations and for such times as the Company considers necessary for the proper performance of your duties.All listed tasks and responsibilities are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional tasks and responsibilities.
