Senior Technical Consultant

Appian UK . This role is within the Customer Success team. In this role, you will engage with customers post-sales to develop software solutions on the Appian platform. You will help lead projects and work through the entire project life-cycle to define, design, develop and implement custom software solutions using Appian’s low-code platform for commercial clients. You will work in an agile environment to understand client business processes and technical needs, launch new relational data models in production, develop APIs to integrate with multiple systems, and mentor consultants through fast-paced software implementations. You will collaborate with clients’ technical teams and business users to drive adoption and empower them to build process applications themselves.
Location / Working pattern This role is based at our HQ in McLean, VA. Appian prioritizes in-person collaboration; employees are expected to be in the office 4–5 days per week to foster culture and teamwork. While working in-person with customers is the main priority, the office environment supports collaboration and relationship-building across teams.
Responsibilities
Lead projects and mentor consultants through post-sale software implementations.
Work with clients to define business processes and gather functional and technical requirements.
Develop software on the Appian low-code platform within an agile environment.
Design and implement data models and APIs to integrate with multiple systems.
Collaborate with client teams and business users throughout the software lifecycle and drive adoption.
Help clients become self-sufficient in building process applications.
Qualifications
3+ years of hands-on software development or technical consulting.
B.S./B.A. in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics or related field.
Willingness to travel; 20% travel to support customer engagement.
Passion for mentoring and developing others; experience leading small teams through post-sale software implementation.
Excellent communication skills, passion for technology and continuous learning, and ability to ask why and solve the right problems.
History of success on cross-functional teams; experience with agile methodologies (pair programming, stand-ups, planning sessions, sprints).
Basic understanding of object-oriented programming; experience with relational databases and SQL.
Knowledge of software testing practices (test-driven development, automated test suites), integrations using REST and SOAP APIs, JDBC, and web services; familiarity with AWS, AI/ML, Google Cloud, and related technologies.
