Overview
JOB TITLE Accountant
REPORTS TO Director of Finance
Summary of Job Purpose
Responsible for assisting management with reporting of financial information, including analyzing data, preparing financial reports, budgets, and tax returns.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage Accounts Receivable - process payments, track customer payments, and manage collections to ensure cash flow.
- Record and Reconcile transactions - record financial transactions in ledgers, reconcile bank statements and other accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Track Expenses - monitor and review employee and operational expenses to ensure compliance with company budgets and policies.
- Generate Financial Statements - assist in creating and analyzing key financial documents, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Budgets and Forecasts - assist in preparation and management of budgets, roll forwards of key accounts and financial forecasts.
- Collaborate with Auditors - work with auditors during audits to provide financial information and explanations.
- Fixed Assets - assist in maintaining the FAS System, track the purchase, use, and disposal of the company’s long-term and tangible assets like property, plant and equipment.
- Cost Analysis - assist in collecting and analyzing cost data from production, inventory, and operations to understand cost factors and identify areas for improvements.
- Variance Analysis - assist in comparing and analyzing standard cost to actual costs to identify deviations, determine root causes and recommend solutions.
- Inventory Management - assist in monitoring and reconciling inventory, including physical counts to ensure data accuracy.
- Other Duties - other job duties as assigned.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills - interpreting complex financial data, identifying trends and discrepancies, detecting and correcting errors, recommending strategic solutions to financial issues, and using creative or lateral thinking to overcome complex accounting challenges and ensure data accuracy.
- Attention to Details - thorough and precise when completing tasks, focusing on small and important aspects.
- Collaboration - clear communication, teamwork, and adaptability. Ability to work with coworkers and others on the jobsite and in the office.
- Technical Skills - knowledge of GAAP, proficiency in accounting software (like QuickBooks), tax law, financial reporting, auditing, and data analysis. Proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Education (or Equivalent Experience)
- BS in Accounting or related field required
- 2-5 years’ accounting experience required
