Position Summary
A Security Guard with The Salvation Army is charged with maintaining a safe environment for all employees, clients, and visitors to the Kroc Center Hawaii. The position provides a visual security presence to ensure that members and guests have a safe and pleasant experience while visiting the Center. The position will also be responsible for facility monitoring during hours of operation as well as when closed. Candidate will also execute emergency response procedures as required. The Security Guard will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.
Essential Functions
- Provide a visual security presence by circulating among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property and help maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
- Conduct hourly rounds to monitor facility activity. Report problems to the Lead Security Guard. Check stairwells, fire exits, mechanical room, and fire extinguishers and pull boxes.
- Under the guidance of the Facility Manager, ensure mechanical systems are functioning properly and record observations (e.g., standing water and fire hazards, pool pump area checks).
- Monitor alarm systems, sign in/out keys and audiovisual equipment, admit staff and visitors, check in/out deliveries, and answer the security office telephone.
- Be familiar with and understand the Center's Emergency Action Plan and evacuation procedures; conduct emergency procedures as necessary.
- Control crowds as required.
- Apprehend or evict violators after appropriate warning, if needed.
- Secure the Center's entrances at the end of operating hours.
- Maintain a shift log and adhere to Salvation Army Policies and Procedures and Code of Ethics.
- Attend staff and administrative meetings; maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Monitor and adjust computerized lighting and timers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Must have current valid State of Hawaii Guard Card.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- One-two years' work experience.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, follow detailed procedures, and have good customer service skills.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.
Other Qualifications
- Certifications or ability to attain: First Aid, CPR, AED, CIP (Crisis Intervention Program) as required within specified timeframes.
- Must pass a criminal history information check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude employment; circumstances will be considered.
Physical Demands
The position requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing/balancing, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting 50-75 pounds (occasional more than 75 pounds), and may require working weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Environmental and Communication Demands
Regular exposure to inside and outside environments and diverse weather conditions. Duties include communicating with co-workers, clients, vendors; using telephone and digital devices; and providing clear written and verbal instructions.
Work Environment
The Salvation Army Center environment is a mix of indoor and outdoor settings. The employee may work in various weather conditions and settings as part of security operations.
