Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated,
experienced cataloger
to join our talented team. This role is ideal for an individual with experience in auctions or galleries, a strong background in cataloging decorative arts, fine furniture, and fine art, and a passion for working in a fast-paced auction environment. This role also requires working at the monthly auction one weekend a month.
**Prior auction house experience is preferred for this role**
Key Responsibilities: Research, identify, and accurately catalog auction consignments, using proper industry terminology and adhering to internal catalog formatting standards Assess and estimate auction values in line with secondary market trends Collaborate with specialists and outside experts when needed Occasionally assist with on-site estate visits, including evaluation, listing, and packing of consignments Assist with auction set-up, lotting, unpacking, and general auction preparations Participate actively during auction weekends in various roles such as front office support, customer service, cash handling, telephone bidding, and internet bidding software operation Contribute positively to the gallery’s team-focused environment, embracing a hands-on and flexible approach to tasks
Qualifications: Prior cataloging experience in an auction house, gallery, or related setting Strong research skills and excellent descriptive writing abilities Passion for auctions, antiques, decorative arts, and fine art Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive team attitude Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with excellent organization and task management Attention to detail and the ability to independently prioritize in a fast-paced environment
Working Environment: Hands-on work with fragile and valuable consignments Warehouse setting located in Austin, Texas Ability to handle the pressures of multiple deadlines and fast-paced auction schedules Flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities and workload demands
Schedule: Monday – Thursday: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Friday: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM (subject to variation during auction weekends) Monthly auction participation required (Friday–Sunday) with varied hours depending on role and auction needs Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary to meet catalog production deadlines
