Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced and versatile
2nd Shift Machine Shop Supervisor
to lead our 2nd shift in a fast-paced
job shop
environment. This is a
working supervisor
position meaning you'll not only manage workflow and personnel but also actively run machines and contribute directly to production. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives on solving problems, managing shifting priorities, and keeping jobs moving. Key Responsibilities: Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of 2nd shift machine shop personnel. Assign and schedule jobs based on priority, machine availability, and workforce skill sets. Set up and operate CNC and/or manual machines as needed to support production goals. Set-up, program (Fusion 360), and operate CNC equipment, including Hurco 5-axis, Hurco 3 & 4-axis, Hurco TMM10, G&L, Haas, and more Occasionally work with manual mills and lathes Bullard VTL experience is a plus Ensure adherence to job travelers, blueprints, and customer specifications. Monitor work progress and provide direction or technical support to machinists as needed. Ensure quality standards are met by performing in-process inspections and coaching employees. Troubleshoot machining and process issues to reduce downtime and scrap. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment in compliance with safety regulations. Train and mentor machinists, including new hires. Communicate effectively with first shift, engineering, quality, and management teams. Maintain accurate production and timekeeping records. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and problem-solving efforts. Personal training will be conducted on 1st shift for some period of time Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required;
technical/vocational
training in machining preferred. Minimum 5 years of machining experience in a
job shop
or high-mix/low-volume environment. Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred but not required if youve led by example on the floor. Proficient with a range of machines (CNC mills/lathes, manual equipment, etc.). Strong CAM programming experience (5+ years,
Fusion 360
preferred) Skilled in blueprint reading, GD&T, and use of precision measuring instruments. Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to shift gears quickly. Must be organized, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple priorities. Willing to get hands dirty, jump in when help is needed, and lead by example. Familiarity with ERP/job tracking systems is a plus. Effective communicator with a hands-on, team-oriented leadership style. Willingness to work overtime or flexible hours as needed to support production. Working Conditions: Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, coolant, metal chips, and shop floor activity. Requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and operating machine tools safely
