Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Lake Zurich
Hire Type: Long-term Contract, Onsite
Pay Range: $60-65/hour (W2, with full employee benefits)
Position Summary The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for driving engineering improvements in production, including equipment, tooling, and process optimization. This role supports departmental objectives by ensuring products and services meet customer requirements for quality, quantity, and timeliness. The position involves a balance of direct customer support and sustaining engineering responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to established quality systems, including applicable SOPs and training requirements.
Mentor engineers and provide oversight of technicians as appropriate.
Manage transfer of products into production following completion of design reviews.
Develop and refine manufacturing processes to ensure acceptable throughput, yield, and cost targets.
Identify and implement process improvements using lean manufacturing tools such as Value Stream Mapping and 5S.
Conduct ROI analyses for investment opportunities.
Lead modifications to existing product lines as needed.
Select, implement, and coordinate new equipment for manufacturing, including developing preventive maintenance procedures.
Oversee design and integration of custom equipment, fixtures, and processes to meet customer requirements, improve quality, and reduce costs.
Support equipment maintenance as appropriate, escalating issues when necessary, and ensure safe re-entry of equipment to production.
Train assemblers on new or revised assembly procedures.
Manage process validation activities, including IQ, OQ, PQ, gauge R&R, and software validation, following master validation plans.
Conduct capability studies and data analysis during production.
Review and implement safety procedures and equipment modifications.
Enhance production line layouts to improve efficiency.
Collaborate with customer service to communicate product status and resolve issues.
Contribute to project quotations and cost estimates.
Support annual risk analysis and manage updates to Device Master Records (DMRs).
Qualifications
Six Sigma certification preferred.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience
7+ years of experience in sustaining and process engineering; contract manufacturing experience preferred.
Experience with ISO standards, cGMP, and ISO 13485 preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
High energy level with strong attention to detail and urgency.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with MS Office and CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent).
Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques.
Statistical analysis skills; experience with DOE and Minitab preferred.
Strong interpersonal and customer interaction skills.
Physical Demands
Position may require standing, lifting, and performing hands-on work in a production environment.
