RECRUITMENT DESCRIPTION:

The City of Ellensburg has a vacancy for a part-time, on-call Library Substitute.

The person in this position assists with the day-to-day operation of the library including circulation, reference, youth services, material processing, special programming, and public computer use; provide information, guidance and assistance to patrons.

Performs miscellaneous duties as requested by supervisor.

As a substitute there is no standard schedule or guaranteed number of hours; days/hours will vary and will include weekends and evenings.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) One (1) year of related experience and/or training

PLEASE NOTE: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the listed requirements as determined by Management.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of general office practices and procedures; knowledge of basic Library operations; knowledge of alphabetical and whole/decimal number filing. Skilled in the use of computers and data entry, operation of listed tools and equipment; ability to maintain confidentiality of patron records. Ability to provide excellent service to others; ability to be courteous and tactful and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public; ability to work in a team setting and demonstrate willingness to assist and support coworkers, contribute ideas, maintain flexibility, and be able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Skilled in exercising initiative and judgment in completing tasks; ability to successfully organize various activities. Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner, verbally and in writing, and present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and relay instructions to others; ability to read and implement policies and procedures; ability to read and write accurate, professional correspondence.
